We often play a little fetch out back, but Buddy is quite capable of playing “toss and fetch” all by himself. He frolics inside the house tossing the ball up and running to catch it repeatedly. In the backyard, he will drop the ball on the stairs and catch it as it bounces on the way down. There are other dog toys at Buddy’s house. In fact, there were ten toys in the yard this morning and eight of them were balls. It is quite clear that the ball is his favorite toy. It can be red, orange, white, green, blue – the color doesn’t matter at all. But having a squeak is preferred!
Buddy has a good memory and knows when a ball has rolled out of reach. Sometimes when I am at the door ready to attach his leash – he goes off to find something. When he doesn’t come back, I follow him and sure enough he is staring under the couch for – that’s right – the ball he has chosen to carry on his walk. I have only found one item that Buddy will readily drop the ball for and that’s a treat!
It has been a delight to get to know Buddy over the years and observe his antics. It’s a double reward that Buddy seems to like me back and his owners appreciate all that I do. Happy Hound; Happy Home.
